** Morning Prayers part one – upon arising.

Morning Prayers part one

(English mostly) Excerpts from a standard orthodox prayerbook, nusach Sephard, which I edited for my personal use and decided to copy here, for other people to use. You can make your own changes to suit your personal situations and preferences if you decide to use it. A quick pronunciation guide for the traditionally Hebrew parts:

“…im” is “…eem” and “i” in general is “ee” as in “machine.”

“…ch…” is a hard, gutteral “h” as in “loch ness.”

“a” is always “ah” as in father.

“o” is always long o, as in home.

“u” is always long u, as in usual.

“ei” is “ay” as in “neighbor.”

“ay” is also “ay” and has the yud in Hebrew.

Upon Arising

Modeh Ani

I gratefully thank you, O living and Eternal King, for you have watched over my life day and night with compassion – abundand is your faithfulness!

Reisheit

The beginning of wisdom is the Fear of YHWH, good understanding to all their practitioners, His praise endures forever. Blessed is the name of His glorious kingdom for all eternity. The Torah that Moshe relayed to us is the heritage of the Congregation of Jacob. Hear, my child, the discipline of your father, and do not foresake the teaching of your mother. The Torah should be my faith, and El Shaddai should assist me. But you who cling to YHWH Eloheinu – you are all alive to this day. For Your Yeshua do I long, O YHWH.

Mah Tovu

How goodly are your tents, O Jacob, your dwelling places, O Israel. As for me, through your abundant kindness I will enter Your House. I will prostrate myself toward Your Holy Sanctuary in awe of You. O YHWH, I love the House where You dwell, and the place where Your Glory resides. I shall prostrate myself and bow. I shall kneel before YHWH my maker. As for me, may my prayer to You be at an opportune time, El Shaddai. In Your abundant kindness, answer me with the truth of Your Yeshua.

Adon Olam

Master of the Universe, Who reigned before any form was created, at the time when His will brought all into being – then as “King” was His Name proclaimed. After all has ceased to be, He, the awesome ome, will reign alone. It is He who was, He whi is, and He who shall remain in splendor. He is One – there is no second to compare to Him, to declare as His equal. Without beginning, Ain Sof – His is the power and dominion. He is my Yah, my living Redeemer, Rock of my pain in time of distress. He is my banner, a refuge for me, the portion in my cup on the day I call. Into His hand I shall entrust my spirit when I go to sleep in the dust – and I shall awaken! YHWH is with me, I shall not fear.

Morning Blessings

Baruch

Blessed are You, YHWH Eloheinu, King of the Universe, Who has sanctified us with His commandments, and with the blood of Yeshua HaMashiach, and has commanded us to be clean and to avoid uncleanness.

Baruch (also repeated as necessary for bathroom breaks during the day)

Blessed are You, YHWH Eloheinu, King of the Universe, Who fashioned man with wisdom [and created within him many openings and many cavities. It is obvious and known before your throne of glory that if but one of them were to be ruptured or but one of them wre to be blocked it would be impossible to survive and to stand before you, even for one hour.] Blessed are You, YHWH, who heals all flesh and acts wondrously.

Blessings of the Torah

Baruch

Blessed are You, YHWH Eloheinu, King of the Universe, who has sanctified us with His commandments and with the Blood of Yeshua HaMashiach, and has commanded us to engross ourselves in the words of Torah. Please, YHWH Eloheinu, sweeten the words of Your Torah in our mouth and in the mouths of Your people, the House of Israel. May we, ___________ and our offspring, ________________________, and Your people, the House of Israel – all of us – know Yeshua HaMashiach and study Your Torah for its own sake. Blessed are You, YHWH, who teaches Torah to His people Israel.

Baruch atan YHWH Eloheinu, melek ha’olam, asher bachar banu mikal ha’amim, ve’natan lanu et Torahto. Baruch atah YHWH, notein ha’Torah.

Elohei

Elohei, the soul you placed within me is pure. You created it, You breathed it into me, You safeguard it within me, and eventually You will take it from me, and restore it to me in Time to Come. Hallulu-Yah! I gratefully thank You, YHWH Elohei, El Shaddai of my forefathers, master of all works, Adonai of all souls. Blessed are You, YHWH, who restores breath to dead bodies.

Baruch

Blessed are you, YHWH, Eloheinu, King of the Universe, who gave the heart understanding to distinguish between day and night.

Blessed are You, YHWH Eloheinu, King of the Universe, for having made me one of Your people.

Blessed are You, YHWH Eloheinu, King of the Universe, for not having made me a slave.

Blessed are You, YHWH Eloheinu, King of the Universe, for having made me according to His will.

Blessed are You, YHWH Eloheinu, King of the Universe…

…who gives sight to the blind.

…who clothes the naked.

…who releases the bound

…who straightens the bent.

…who spreads out the earth upon the waters.

…who firms man’s footsteps.

…who has provided me my every need.

…who girds Israel with strength.

…who crowns Israel with splendour.

…who gives strength to the weary.

Baruch

Blessed are You, YHWH Eloheinu, King of the Universe, who removes sleep from my eyes and slumber from my eyelids. And may it be Your will, YHWH Eloheinu, El Shaddai of our forefathers, that you accustom me to obey Your Torah and to attach me to Your commandments. Do not bring me into the power of error, nor into the power of transgression and sin, nor into the power of challenge, nor into the power of scorn. Let not the evil inclination dominate me. Distance me from an evil person and an evil companion. Attach me to the Good Inclination and to good deeds and compel my Evil Inclination to be subservient to You. Grant me today and every day grace, kindness, and mercy in Your eyes and in the eyes of all who see me, and bestow beneficient kindness upon us. Blessed are You, YHWH, who bestows beneficient kindnesses upon His people Israel.

Yiy Ratzon

May it be Your will, YHWH Eloheinu, El Shaddai of my forefathers, that You rescue me today and every day from brazen people and from my own brazenness, from an evil person, and evil inclination, and evil companion, an evil neighbor, an evil mishap, an evil eye, evil speech, informers, unfavorable occurences, the destructive spiritual impediment, a harsh trial and a harsh opponent – whether they are a member of the covenant or whether they are not a member of the covenant – and from the judgment of Gehinnom.

Eloheinu

Elohei, El Shaddai of our forefathers, remember us with a favorable memory before You, and recall us with a recollection of Yeshua HaMashiach and mercy from the primeval loftiest heavens…

Rubono

Master of the Universe! Just as Avraham our forefather supressed his mercy for his only son in order to do Your will wholeheartedly, just as Yeshua HaMashiach gave up His life voluntarily to do Your will, so may Your mercy suppress Your anger from upon us and may Your mercy overwhelm Your attributes (and may You overstep with us the line of Your Law) and deal with me, O YHWH Eloheinu – with the attribute of kindness and the attribute of mercy…As it is said: “Despite even this, when they will be in the land of their enemies, I will not have despised them nor abhorred them to destroy thenm, to annul my covenant with them, for I am YHWH Elohim…” And it is said: “Who, El Shaddai, is like You, who pardons iniquity and overlooks transgression for the remnant of His heritage? He has not retained His wrath eternally for HE desires kindness. HE will again be merciful to us. He will suppress our iniquities and cast into the depths of the sea all our sins. Grant truth to Jacob, kindness to Avraham, as You swore to our forefathers from ancient times.” And it is said: “And I will bring them to My holy mountain and I will gladden them in My House of prayer. Their elevation offerings and their feast offerings will find favor on My altar, for My House will be called a House of Prayer for all peoples.”

Le’Olam

Always let a person be Yah fearing privately and publically, acknowledge the truth, speak the truth within the heart, and arise early and proclaim: Master of all worlds and Adon of all Adonim! Not in the merit of our righteousness do we cast our supplications before You, but in the merit of Your abundant mercy. What are we? What is our life? What is our kindness? What is our righteousness? What is our salvation? What is our strength? What is our might? What can we say before You, YHWH Eloheinu, El Shaddai of our forefathers - are not all the heroes like nothing before you? The famous as if they had never existed? The wise as if devoid of wisdom? And the perceptive as if devoid of intelligence? For most of our deeds are desolate and the days of our lives are empty before You. The pre-eminence of man over beast is non-existent for all is vanity – except the pure soul, Yeshua HaMashiach, destined to give justification and reckoning before Your throne of glory. All the nations are as if non-existent before You, as it is said: “…Behold! He will cast away the islands like dust.” But we are Your people, members of Your covenant, children of Avraham, Your beloved, to whom you took an oath at Mount Moriah, the offspring of Isaac, his promised son, who was bound atop the altar, the community of Jacob, Your firstborn son, whom – because of the love with which You adored him and the joy with which You delighted in him – You named him Israel and Yeshurun.

Therefore, we are obligated to thank You, praise You, glorify You, bless, sanctify and offer praise and thanks to Your Name (though we’re not exactly sure how to pronounce it). We are fortunate – how good is our portion, how pleasant our lot, and how beautiful our heritage! We are fortunate when we rise early and stay up late, and unify Your name each day, continually, and proclaim twice with love:

Sh’ma Yisrael! YHWH Eloheinu, YHWH Echad. Baruk sheim, kavod mal’kuto, le’olam va’ed.

Atah

It was You before the world was created, it is You since the world was created. It is You in this world, and it is You in the world to come…It is You who are YHWH Eloheinu, in heaven and on earth and in the loftiest heavens. True – You are the First and the Last, and other than You there is no “god.” Gather in the dispersed who yearn for You, from the four corners of the earth. Elt all who walk the earth recognize and know that You alone are Elohim, supreme over all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and all that is in them. Who among all Your handiwork, those above and those below, can say to You, “What are you doint and what are You accomplishing?” Our Father in heaven, living and endurin gOne, do righteousness and kindness with us for the sake of Yeshua HaMashiach who has been proclaimed to us. Fulfill for us, YHWH Eloheinu, that which has been promosed through Your seer Zephaniah, as it is said: “At that time I will bring you and at that time I will gather you in, for I will set you up for renown and praise among all the peoples of the earth, when I rescind your captivity, before your own eyes, said YHWH.”

Offerings

Tamid

May it be Your will, YHWH Eloheinu, El Shaddai of our forefathers, that You have mercy on us and pardon us for all our errors, atone for us all our iniquities, and forgive all our willful sins, and that the Holy Temple be rebuit speedily, in our days, so that we may offer to You the continual offering in sincerity, as You have prescribed for us in Your Torah through Moshe, your servant.

May it be Your will, YHWH Eloheinu, El Shaddai of our forefathers, that this recital be worthy and acceptable, and favorable before You, as if we had offered the continual offering in its set time, in its place, and according to its requirement.

Incense

It is You, YHWH Eloheinu, before whom our forefathers burned the incense spices in the time when the Holy Temple stood, as You commanded them through Moshe Your prophet, as it is written in Your Torah.

YHWH Adonai Tzeva’ot is with us, a stronghold for us is the El Shaddai of Jacob, selah!

YHWH Adonai Tzeva’ot, praiseworthy is the person who trusts in You. YHWH save! May the King answer us on the day we call! You are a shelter fo rme, from distress You preserve me, with glad song of rescue You envelop me, selah! May the offering of Yehudah and Yerushalayim be pleasing to YHWH, as in days of old and in ancient years.

Ana Be’Ko’ach

We beg You! With the strength of Yeshua HaMashiach’s greatness, untie the bundled sins! Accept the prayer of Your people! Strengthen us, purify us, O Awesome One – please! O strong One, those who foster Your oneness, guard them like the pupil of an eye! Bless us, purify us, show us pity – may Your righteousness always recompense us. Powerful Holy One, with Your abundand goodness guide my household. One and only exalted one, turn to Your people, which proclaims Your holiness. Accept our entreaty and hear our cry, O knower of mysteries! Baruk shem, kavod malkuto, le’olam va’ed.

Ribon

Master of the worlds, You commanded us to bring the continual offering at its set time, and that the Kohanim be at their assigned service, the Levites on their platform, and the Israelites at their station. But now, through our sins, the Holy Temple is destroyed, the continual offering is discontinued, and we have neigher Kohen at his service, nor Levite on his platform, nor Israelite at his station. But You said: “Let our lips compensate for the bulls.” Therefore, may it be Your will, YHWH Eloheinu, El Shaddai of our forefathers, that the prayer of our lips be worthy, acceptable and favorable before You, as if we had brought the continual offering at its set time and we had stood at its station.

May it be Your will, YHWH Eloheinu, El Shaddai of our forefathers, that if I am liable to a sin offering, that these words find favor before You, as if I hav brought a sin offering.

May it find favor as if I have brought an elevation offerings.

May it be Your will, YHWH Eloheinu, El Shaddai of our forefathers, that if I am liable to a guilt offering, that these words find favor before You, as if I have brought a guilt ofering.

May it find favor as if I have brought a thanksgiving offering.

May it find favor as if I have brought a peace offering.

May it be Your will, YHWH Eloneinu, El Shaddai of our forefathers, that the Holy Temple be rebuilt, speedily in our days, and grant us our share in Your Toerah, and may we serve You there with reverence as in days of old and in ancient years.

Mizmor (psalm 15)

YHWH, who may sojourn in Your Tent? Who may dwell in Your holy mountain? He who walks in perfect innocence, does what is right, and speaks the truth from his heart, who has no slander on his tongue, who has done his friend no evil, nor cast disgrace upon his intimate, in whose eyes the despicable is repulsive, but those who fears YHWH he honors – who has sworn to his own hurt, yet does not retract, who lends not his money at interest, nor takes a bribe against the innocent. Whoever does these shall forever not falter.

Ye’did

Beloved of the soul, Compassionate Father, draw Your servant to Your will. Then Your servant will hurry like a hart to bow before Your majesty. To me Your friendship will be sweeter than the dripping of the honeycomb, or any flavour.

HaDur

Majestic, Beautiful, Radiance of the universe – my soul pines for Your love. Please, O Yah, heal me now by showing me the pleasantness of Your radiance. Then will I be strengthened and healed, and eternal gladness will be mine.

Hig’leih

Please be revealed and spread upon me, My Beloved, the shelter of Your peace. Illuminate the world with Your glory that we may rejoice and be glad with You. Hasten, show love, for the time has come – and show us grace as in days of old.

End part one.
