Revelation chapters 10 & 11

Rev 10:1 I saw a mighty angel coming down out of the sky, clothed with a cloud. A rainbow was on his head. His face was like the sun, and his feet like pillars of fire.

Rev 10:2  He had in his hand a little open book. He set his right foot on the sea, and his left on the land.

Rev 10:3  He cried with a loud voice, as a lion roars. When he cried, the seven thunders uttered their voices.

Rev 10:4  When the seven thunders sounded, I was about to write; but I heard a voice from the sky saying, “Seal up the things which the seven thunders said, and don’t write them.”

There is intense speculation as to what words the angel spoke.  This occurs in the interlude between the events of the limited nuclear exchange and the warfare that followed (chapter 9), represented by the trumpet judgments, and the events of the bowl (sometimes called vial) judgments which follow.  In this interlude, Elohim shows John some of the background information – things happening on earth that lead up to the events of the Trib or things that are happening while the war is going on during the Trib itself.

Revelation, continued:

Rev 10:5  The angel who I saw standing on the sea and on the land lifted up his right hand to the sky,

Rev 10:6  and swore by him who lives forever and ever, who created heaven and the things that are in it, the earth and the things that are in it, and the sea and the things that are in it, that there will no longer be delay,

Rev 10:7  but in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he is about to sound, then the mystery of Elohim is finished, as he declared to his servants, the prophets.

The greek word “mysterion” is not used in the Tanakh, so we need to find out exactly what “mysteries” of the kingdom that are declared to the prophets are in view here.

G3466 μυστήριον   mustērion   moos-tay’-ree-on

From a derivative of μύω muō (to shut the mouth); a secret or “mystery” (through the idea of silence imposed by initiation into religious rites): – mystery.

First of all, what is NOT in view is the Parousia of Yom Teruah prior to the start of the Tribulation.  The Parousia is an event involving the transformation of both dead and living who qualify (the “philadephians” of Revelation chapter 3) into immortality.  There is nothing in the Tanakh about this.  It was simply not told to the ancient Israelites, primarily because it does not apply to them – it is an event specifically reserved for Torah obedient believes in Yeshua HaMashiach.

So, what mystery of Elohim WAS revealed to the prophets of old?  The arrival of YHWH Tzeva’ot IN PERSON to take control of the earth – the King of Kings, YHWH Incarnate, whom we know as Yeshua HaMashiach.  That is the event that the prophets tried to teach people over and over and over, and yet they still say, to this day, “where is the promise of his coming?  Everything goes on like it always did.”  They don’t believe.

Revelation, continued:

Rev 10:8  The voice which I heard from heaven, again speaking with me, said, “Go, take the book which is open in the hand of the angel who stands on the sea and on the land.”

Rev 10:9  I went to the angel, telling him to give me the little book. He said to me, “Take it, and eat it up. It will make your stomach bitter, but in your mouth it will be as sweet as honey.”

Rev 10:10  I took the little book out of the angel’s hand, and ate it up. It was as sweet as honey in my mouth. When I had eaten it, my stomach was made bitter.

Rev 10:11  They told me, “You must prophesy again over many peoples, nations, languages, and kings.”

This is a re-enactment of an event by another prophet who prophecied about the Millennial Temple and the Last Days:  Ezekiel.

Eze 2:8  But you, son of man, hear what I tell you; don’t be you rebellious like that rebellious house: open your mouth, and eat that which I give you.   Eze 2:9 When I looked, behold, a hand was put forth to me; and, behold, a scroll of a book was therein;   Eze 2:10  He spread it before me: and it was written within and without; and there were written therein lamentations, and mourning, and woe.  Eze 3:1 He said to me, Son of man, eat that which you find; eat this scroll, and go, speak to the house of Yisra’el.   Eze 3:2  So I opened my mouth, and he caused me to eat the scroll.   Eze 3:3  He said to me, Son of man, cause your belly to eat, and fill your bowels with this scroll that I give you. Then did I eat it; and it was in my mouth as honey for sweetness.

Revelation, continued:

Rev 11:1 A reed like a rod was given to me. Someone said, “Rise, and measure Elohim’s temple, and the altar, and those who worship in it.

Rev 11:2  Leave out the court which is outside of the temple, and don’t measure it, for it has been given to the nations. They will tread the holy city under foot for forty-two months.

This is 3 ½ standard Hebrew years (each month having 30 days).  It refers to the last half of the Tribulation, after the Abomination of Desolation when the False Messiah (the Beast) has taken over the Temple Mount.

About 30 days before the “grand unveiling” of the new Temple at Passover, (the altar already having been in service for some time) the Beast will have his image installed in the Holy of Holies.  Then, from Nisan 10th (the day he triumphantly enters Jerusalem in imitation of Yeshua and is accepted by both the crowd and the authorities “in his own name” – John 5:43) it will be 3 ½ years until Yom Kippur, Tishri 10th, the second advent.  Then, 75 days later, the Shekinah will return to the Temple Mount on Chanukkah.

Dan 12:11  From the time that the continual [burnt offering] shall be taken away, and the abomination that makes desolate set up, there shall be one thousand two hundred ninety days.   Dan 12:12  Blessed is he who waits, and comes to the one thousand three hundred thirty-five days.   Dan 12:13  But go you your way until the end be; for you shall rest, and shall stand in your lot, at the end of the days.

So we see from these reference to Ezekiel and Daniel that the “mystery” has something to do with the Temple, the defilement, and the second advent (not the Parousia).

Revelation, continued:

Rev 11:3  I will give power to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy one thousand two hundred sixty days, clothed in sackcloth.”

Rev 11:4  These are the two olive trees and the two menorot, standing before the Adon of the earth.

Rev 11:5  If anyone desires to harm them, fire proceeds out of their mouth and devours their enemies. If anyone desires to harm them, he must be killed in this way.

Rev 11:6  These have the power to shut up the sky, that it may not rain during the days of their prophecy. They have power over the waters, to turn them into blood, and to strike the earth with every plague, as often as they desire.

Rev 11:7  When they have finished their testimony, the beast that comes up out of the abyss will make war with them, and overcome them, and kill them.

These two witnesses are “witnesses for the prosecution,” namely Enoch and Elijah, both of whom lived on earth and then were taken to Heaven without dying a physical death.  Their job has been to “witness” and “verify” various events in Elohim’s plan.  At the start of the Tribulation they return to earth to preach and teach in Jerusalem.  This lasts for 3 ½ years until the midpoint of the Tribulation – when the False Messiah is assassinated and then “resurrected” by hasatan.  At that point, he has great power (being indwelt by hasatan, of course) and is able to kill the two witnesses.

Rev 11:8  Their dead bodies will be in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sedom and Egypt, where also their Adonai was crucified.

Rev 11:9  From among the peoples, tribes, languages, and nations people will look at their dead bodies for three and a half days, and will not allow their dead bodies to be laid in a tomb.

Live on CNN, no doubt.

Revelation, continued:

Rev 11:10  Those who dwell on the earth rejoice over them, and they will be glad. They will give gifts to one another, because these two prophets tormented those who dwell on the earth.

Rev 11:11  After the three and a half days, the breath of life from Elohim entered into them, and they stood on their feet. Great fear fell on those who saw them.

Rev 11:12  I heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them, “Come up here!” They went up into heaven in the cloud, and their enemies saw them.

“Come up here!” are the same words Elohim used to enact the Parousia with John at the beginning of chapter 4 – showing that the two witnesses are raised to immortality.  This is their own special resurrection that they have earned with their millennia of service to Elohim’s plan.  The day of their ascent is likely Nisan 21st, the last sabbath of Unleavened Bread, widely thought to be the day that Elohim parted the Sea of Reeds for Israel.  It is possible that this is the day that Elohim will “make a path through the wilderness” to enable the Torah True Jews of Jerusalem to flee to Southern Jordan (probably Petra) and escape the execution order that the Beast will issue against them.

Revelation, continued:

Rev 11:13  In that day there was a great earthquake, and a tenth of the city fell. Seven thousand people were killed in the earthquake, and the rest were terrified, and gave glory to the Elohim of heaven.

Rev 11:14  The second woe is past. Behold, the third woe comes quickly.

Seven thousand is an oddly specific number.  It may be representative.  The earthquake likely “clears” the way for the Torah True Jews to flee the city unencumbered by the False Messiah’s forces.

Revelation, continued:

Rev 11:15  The seventh angel sounded, and great voices in heaven followed, saying, “The kingdom of the world has become the Kingdom of Adonai, and of his Messiah. He will reign forever and ever!”

Rev 11:16  The twenty-four elders, who sit on their thrones before Elohim’s throne, fell on their faces and worshiped Elohim,

Rev 11:17  saying: “We give you thanks, Adonai Elohim, the Almighty, the one who is and who was; because you have taken your great power, and reigned.

Rev 11:18  The nations were angry, and your wrath came, as did the time for the dead to be judged, and to give your bondservants the prophets, their reward, as well as to the holy ones, and those who fear your name, to the small and the great; and to destroy those who destroy the earth.”

Rev 11:19  Elohim’s temple that is in heaven was opened, and the ark of Adonai’s covenant was seen in his temple. Lightnings, sounds, thunders, an earthquake, and great hail followed.

We have now ended the interlude of midpoint events and jumped back to the chronology of the judgements, up to the last trumpet.  The trumpet sounds in the very last days of the 7th year of the Tribulation and releases and all-out nuclear exchange which would have extinguished all life on earth if Elohim had not stepped in and returned to earth, as we will see in later chapters.   It is the advent of YHWH Tzeva’ot to fight on Israel’s behalf and set up the Messianic Age that has been the focus of prophecy throughout the Tanakh.  This is the event that everybody is waiting for, the event that will happen when all of the judgements in the scroll have been poured out on the earth – just seven more to go.
