Aviv Found!
On Thursday March 26, 2009 we found Aviv Barley in two fields in the Jordan Valley, several kilometers south of Beth Shean. Samplings from these plots of barley were between 70% and 90% Aviv or beyond. Much of the barley we found had ripened past the stage of Aviv. Based on this there will definitely be sufficient quantities of barley that will be harvest-ready in two weeks time. Therefore, the upcoming new moon this Friday night will begin the Month of the Aviv and the new biblical year.
Chag HaMatzot (the Feast of Unleavened Bread) will begin on April 10 at sunset and continue until April 17 at sunset.
Photographs of this year’s Aviv taken by CB Newman are posted at:

The following people participated in today’s Aviv Search:
Nehemia Gordon, Ruthanne Koch, Devorah Gordon, Dina Marcus, Daniel Pitrone, Baruch ben Hosea, Adam Kinghorn, Bruce Brill, Larry Moldaur, Valerie Knowles, Miri Burgin, C. B. Newman, and Randy Boer.
We will examine the barley in the northern Negev tomorrow. However, our findings so far are adequate to determine that the upcoming new moon will begin the new biblical year.

FURTHER UPDATE:
Shalom!
Shalom from Jerusalem.
For those of you that follow the physical sighting of Aviv Barley in Eretz
Israel to determine the beginning of the new year, we are happy to
inform you that our 2009 search team in Israel’s promised land found
enough AVIV Barley in the Jordan Valley to qualify as evidence that the
New Year is here and that there is no need to add a 13th month. Hence,
we here in Jerusalem Israel would ask that Israel’s Master of Heaven and
Earth – YHWH (Ehiyeh Asher Ehiyeh, Exodus 3:14) would grant each of
you reading this a happy new year with blessings that include a job,
work in this difficult world economy, honest and trustworthy employees
(if you own your own business), money to pay your monthly obligations,
good health, food for your table, physical sustenence and a healthy life
for you and your family, protection for your travels, good friends, healing
of strained relationships, healing of physical illnesses, and all good in this
new year. May you be able to keep the divine commandments of the
Holy Torah of Israel and remain complete in your pursuit of shalom to all
that you come into contact with. May all good follow you and may all
that you set your hands to do bring you a blessing. Amen.
