Jeremiah chapter 43 & 44

Jer 43:1 It happened that, when Yirmeyahu had made an end of speaking to all the people all the words of YHWH their Elohim, with which YHWH their Elohim had sent him to them, even all these words,

Jer 43:2 then spoke `Azaryah the son of Hosha`yah, and Yochanan the son of Kareach, and all the proud men, saying to Yirmeyahu, You speak falsely: YHWH our Elohim has not sent you to say, You shall not go into Egypt to sojourn there;

Jer 43:3 but Barukh the son of Neriyah sets you on against us, to deliver us into the hand of the Kasdim, that they may put us to death, and carry us away captive to Bavel.

The fact that Jeremiah had been right previously in spite of the numerous “sons of the prophets” who claimed Jerusalem would not fall, is totally lost on these people. They aren’t willing to accept anything except what they want to hear. They will only accept what matches their preconceived ideas, regardless of how true the message is. There are many today who are the same way – their preconceived notions so cloud their minds that truth cannot enter.

Jeremiah, continued:

Jer 43:4 So Yochanan the son of Kareach, and all the captains of the forces, and all the people, didn’t obey the voice of YHWH, to dwell in the land of Yehudah.

Jer 43:5 But Yochanan the son of Kareach, and all the captains of the forces, took all the remnant of Yehudah, who were returned from all the nations where they had been driven, to sojourn in the land of Yehudah;

Jer 43:6 the men, and the women, and the children, and the king’s daughters, and every person who Nevuzar’adan the captain of the guard had left with Gedalyahu the son of Achikam, the son of Shafan; and Yirmeyahu the prophet, and Barukh the son of Neriyah;

Jer 43:7 and they came into the land of Egypt; for they didn’t obey the voice of YHWH: and they came to Tachpanches.

Tephanes is mentioned elsewhere in prophecy. From this story, we may be able to interpret future references in prophecy to “Tephanes” as being directed toward Diaspora communities of Jews who decline to make Aliyah to Eretz Israel and think they are safer in their exile communities. This is also, of course, a prophecy for modern Egypt, who apparently thinks the False Messiah will not molest them, perhaps due to some treaty or some perceived equality of strength (nukes, perhaps?). This prophecy indicates such hopes are false.

Jeremiah, continued:

Jer 43:8 Then came the word of YHWH to Yirmeyahu in Tachpanches, saying,

Jer 43:9 Take great stones in your hand, and hide them in mortar in the brick work, which is at the entry of Par`oh’s house in Tachpanches, in the sight of the men of Yehudah;

Jer 43:10 and tell them, Thus says YHWH Tzeva’ot, the Elohim of Yisra’el: Behold, I will send and take Nevukhadnetzar the king of Bavel, my servant, and will set his throne on these stones that I have hidden; and he shall spread his royal pavilion over them.

Jer 43:11 He shall come, and shall strike the land of Egypt; such as are for death [shall be given] to death, and such as are for captivity to captivity, and such as are for the sword to the sword.

Jer 43:12 I will kindle a fire in the houses of the gods of Egypt; and he shall burn them, and carry them away captive: and he shall array himself with the land of Egypt, as a shepherd puts on his garment; and he shall go forth from there in shalom.

Jer 43:13 He shall also break the pillars of Beit-Shemesh, that is in the land of Egypt; and the houses of the gods of Egypt shall he burn with fire.

Recall, elsewhere it is prophecied that in the last days, Egypt will be completely destroyed and made uninhabitable for the first 40 years of the Messianic Kingdom, after which they will be allowed to return.

Jeremiah, continued:

Jer 44:1 The word that came to Yirmeyahu concerning all the Judeans who lived in the land of Egypt, who lived at Migdol, and at Tachpanches, and at Mof, and in the country of Patros, saying,

Jer 44:2 Thus says YHWH Tzeva’ot, the Elohim of Yisra’el: You have seen all the evil that I have brought on Yerushalayim, and on all the cities of Yehudah; and behold, this day they are a desolation, and no man dwells therein,

Jer 44:3 because of their wickedness which they have committed to provoke me to anger, in that they went to burn incense, [and] to serve other gods, that they didn’t know, neither they, nor you, nor your fathers.

Jer 44:4 However I sent to you all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, Oh, don’t do this abominable thing that I hate.

Jer 44:5 But they didn’t listen, nor inclined their ear to turn from their wickedness, to burn no incense to other gods.

Jer 44:6 Therefore my wrath and my anger was poured forth, and was kindled in the cities of Yehudah and in the streets of Yerushalayim; and they are wasted and desolate, as it is this day.

Jer 44:7 Therefore now thus says YHWH, Elohim Tzeva’ot, the Elohim of Yisra’el: Why commit you [this] great evil against your own souls, to cut off from you man and woman, infant and suckling, out of the midst of Yehudah, to leave you none remaining;

Jer 44:8 in that you provoke me to anger with the works of your hands, burning incense to other gods in the land of Egypt, where you are gone to sojourn; that you may be cut off, and that you may be a curse and a reproach among all the nations of the earth?

Jer 44:9 Have you forgotten the wickedness of your fathers, and the wickedness of the kings of Yehudah, and the wickedness of their wives, and your own wickedness, and the wickedness of your wives which they committed in the land of Yehudah, and in the streets of Yerushalayim?

Jer 44:10 They are not humbled even to this day, neither have they feared, nor walked in my law, nor in my statutes, that I set before you and before your fathers.

Jer 44:11 Therefore thus says YHWH Tzeva’ot, the Elohim of Yisra’el: Behold, I will set my face against you for evil, even to cut off all Yehudah.

Jer 44:12 I will take the remnant of Yehudah, that have set their faces to go into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, and they shall all be consumed; in the land of Egypt shall they fall; they shall be consumed by the sword and by the famine; they shall die, from the least even to the greatest, by the sword and by the famine; and they shall be an object of horror, [and] an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach.

Jer 44:13 For I will punish those who dwell in the land of Egypt, as I have punished Yerushalayim, by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence;

Jer 44:14 so that none of the remnant of Yehudah, who have gone into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, shall escape or be left, to return into the land of Yehudah, to which they have a desire to return to dwell there: for none shall return save such as shall escape.

Again, a prophetic as well as historic passage. Those who attempt to leave Eretz Israel to find “safety” in Egypt or other foreign nations during the last days will find no safety there.

Jeremiah, continued:

Jer 44:15 Then all the men who knew that their wives burned incense to other gods, and all the women who stood by, a great assembly, even all the people who lived in the land of Egypt, in Patros, answered Yirmeyahu, saying,

Jer 44:16 As for the word that you have spoken to us in the name of YHWH, we will not listen to you.

Jer 44:17 But we will certainly perform every word that is gone forth out of our mouth, to burn incense to the queen of the sky, and to pour out drink offerings to her, as we have done, we and our fathers, our kings and our princes, in the cities of Yehudah, and in the streets of Yerushalayim; for then had we plenty of food, and were well, and saw no evil.

Jer 44:18 But since we left off burning incense to the queen of the sky, and pouring out drink offerings to her, we have wanted all things, and have been consumed by the sword and by the famine.

Jer 44:19 When we burned incense to the queen of the sky, and poured out drink offerings to her, did we make her cakes to worship her, and pour out drink offerings to her, without our husbands?

This is almost the exact argument that people – “Christians,” especially – will make in the last days when the 3rd Temple is rebuilt and the altar resumes functioning. They will say that things were “fine” before the Temple was rebuilt, and that the punishments are happening to Israel because they are offering sacrifices and turning to “legalism” instead of “turning to jeeeeeeezus.” (You’ll have to imagine the tone of voice.) Nothing could be further from the truth, but this is what they will say, and many foolish people will believe them. They are false prophets, however – by Yeshua’s own definition – because they teach against Torah. And they will receive their just reward in due time.

Jeremiah, continued:

Jer 44:20 Then Yirmeyahu said to all the people, to the men, and to the women, even to all the people who had given him an answer, saying,

Jer 44:21 The incense that you burned in the cities of Yehudah, and in the streets of Yerushalayim, you and your fathers, your kings and your princes, and the people of the land, didn’t YHWH remember them, and didn’t it come into his mind?

Jer 44:22 so that YHWH could no longer bear, because of the evil of your doings, and because of the abominations which you have committed; therefore is your land become a desolation, and an astonishment, and a curse, without inhabitant, as it is this day.

Jer 44:23 Because you have burned incense, and because you have sinned against YHWH, and have not obeyed the voice of YHWH, nor walked in his law, nor in his statutes, nor in his testimonies; therefore this evil is happened to you, as it is this day.

Christians burn incense to this day in Jerusalem, praying to “lord” and proving themselves to be false propets by preaching and teaching against Torah Observance, like their Roman forebears before them. They reject Elohim’s Laws, and the punishment that comes on Jerusalem in the last days will be just as much their own fault as it will be the fault of the Muslims and the fault of the Rabbinate and their “Oral Law” which they substituted for Elohim’s Written Torah. They are all at fault.

Jeremiah, continued:

Jer 44:24 Moreover Yirmeyahu said to all the people, and to all the women, Hear the word of YHWH, all Yehudah who are in the land of Egypt:

Jer 44:25 Thus says YHWH Tzeva’ot, the Elohim of Yisra’el, saying, You and your wives have both spoken with your mouths, and with your hands have fulfilled it, saying, We will surely perform our vows that we have vowed, to burn incense to the queen of the sky, and to pour out drink offerings to her: establish then your vows, and perform your vows.

Jer 44:26 Therefore hear the word of YHWH, all Yehudah who dwell in the land of Egypt: Behold, I have sworn by my great name, says YHWH, that my name shall no more be named in the mouth of any man of Yehudah in all the land of Egypt, saying, As Adonai YHWH lives.

It seems the intention here is for Elohim to say that He will not longer respond to any prayers from the Israelites who purposefully came to Egypt, but there could be some sort of miraculous inability to speak the words “YHWH Adonai Tzeva’ot, Elohim of Israel” (or some combination of these).

Jeremiah, continued:

Jer 44:27 Behold, I watch over them for evil, and not for good; and all the men of Yehudah who are in the land of Egypt shall be consumed by the sword and by the famine, until there be an end of them.

Jer 44:28 Those who escape the sword shall return out of the land of Egypt into the land of Yehudah, few in number; and all the remnant of Yehudah, who have gone into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, shall know whose word shall stand, mine, or theirs.

Jer 44:29 This shall be the sign to you, says YHWH, that I will punish you in this place, that you may know that my words shall surely stand against you for evil:

Jer 44:30 Thus says YHWH, Behold, I will give Pharaoh Chofra king of Egypt into the hand of his enemies, and into the hand of those who seek his life; as I gave Tzidkiyahu king of Yehudah into the hand of Nevukhadnetzar king of Bavel, who was his enemy, and sought his life.

The leaders of the nations that the Israelites flee to in the last days will themselves become subject to the False Messaih – so any perceived “safetly” supposedly offered or guaranteed by other nations is a pipe dream. There is only one safe place, and that place in Southern Jordan, probably Petra, will not be “safe” until after the abomination of desolation at the midpoint of the Tribulation, and it will only be safe for the remnant of unbelieving Torah True Jews. Others trying to reach there will no doubt perish on the way. Elohim will meet with the remnant there to plead with them to accept Him and be subjects of His Kingdom. Those who agree become “sheep,” and those who refuse become “goats.”

Eze 20:33 As I live, says Adonai YHWH, surely with a mighty hand, and with an outstretched arm, and with wrath poured out, will I be king over you: Eze 20:34 and I will bring you out from the peoples, and will gather you out of the countries in which you are scattered, with a mighty hand, and with an outstretched arm, and with wrath poured out; Eze 20:35 and I will bring you into the wilderness of the peoples, and there will I enter into judgment with you face to face. Eze 20:36 Like as I entered into judgment with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so will I enter into judgment with you, says Adonai YHWH. Eze 20:37 I will cause you to pass under the rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant; Eze 20:38 and I will purge out from among you the rebels, and those who disobey against me; I will bring them forth out of the land where they sojourn, but they shall not enter into Eretz-Yisra’el: and you shall know that I am YHWH.

And the goats? Well, it won’t go so well for them.

Mat 25:33 He will set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left… Mat 25:41 Then he will say also to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire which is prepared for the devil and his angels.

Don’t be a goat. Repent and be saved – do Teshuvah and have faith in Yeshua while you still have the chance, class. Time is running short for being included in the Parousia.
